A strong but lightweight form of polyester used for soft drink bottles, liquor bottles, and other food and non-food containers.  is the code that helps consumers identify a PET plastic container. Look for the code near or at the bottom of a PET container.RECYCLED PET IS USED TO MAKE... New soft drink or other containers, fiberfill, carpet fibers, industrial strapping, and more than 57 other consumer items. PET PLASTIC CONTAINERS ARE THE MOST RECYCLED PLASTIC... In 1991, 285 million pounds of PET plastic containers were recycled – representing 24% of all those produced that year. One in every three soft drink bottles (or 33%) produced in 1991 was recycled. PET PLASTIC RECYCLING IS GROWING... PET plastic containers are now included in more than 2,073 curbside collection programs in the United States. NAPCOR has participated in 35 states to spread the message about PET plastics containers. PET REQUIRES LESS ENERGY TO MAKE, AND CREATES LESS WASTE THAN EITHER ALUMINUM OR GLASS CONTAINERS... A study conducted by national waste experts, Franklin Assoc. Ltd., found that even including the petroleum used to make the original product – PET is more energy efficient and less wasteful than either aluminum or glass. MORE PET PARTICULARS... 35% of the polyester carpet made and sold in the United States contains recycled PET. Fourteen 20 oz. PET bottles yield enough fiberfill for a ski jacket. It takes 85 20 oz. PET bottles to make enough fiberfill for a sleeping bag.
