Our Reputation Precedes Us!

Portage Plastics has always been committed to doing business responsibly and conducting ourselves in such a manner that allows us to earn the trust and respect of our customers, our employees, and our community. We strongly believe that contributing to a more sustainable environment is a good business practice and the right thing to do for those future generations.

The Company has been a pioneer in the use of recycled PET (RPET) for use in automotive packaging, consumer products, food packaging (FDA approved RPET), electronic and other market applications.  The Brownsville, TX facility has capacity to extrude about 8 -10 million pounds annually mainly servicing the automotive business with its customer base in the Texas/Mexico border region.  PPC also uses “closed-loop” scrap recovery and eco-friendly/environmentally sound practices.

How does PPC support the “Going Green” movement?

First and foremost, PPC uses recycled plastic material. Recycling plastic products has become a very important component in the efforts to protect our ecosystems and environments. California's Rigid Plastic Packaging Containers (RPPC) Law is an example of the focus on going green. As stated on the California Integrated Waste Management Board website, "currently, the California Code of Regulations (CCR) defines RPPCs as containers that: are made entirely of plastic, except for lids, caps or labels; have a capacity of at least 8 fluid ounces, but no more than 5 gallons or equivalent volumes; can maintain their shape while holding a product; are capable of multiple reclosures and are sold with an attached or unattached lid or cap."   http://www.ciwmb.ca.gov/Plastic/RPPC

PPC’s use of recycled material is in compliance with RPPC. PPC utilizes RPETE (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) to produce many of the packaging products. RPETE is made up of 100% recycled PETE (polyethylene terephthalate) flake or resin acquired from waste streams of Post Industrial and Post Consumer material. One year, PPC recycled 79 tons of waste paper and plastics. By doing so, PPC conserved more than:

300 Mature trees
471,000 KW-HRS of electricity
400 Cubic yards of landfill airspace
7,000 Gallons of oil
400 Gallons of gasoline
133,000 Gallons of water
